#95: Protected By Wisdom From Above

Wisdom strengthens the wise. (Ecclesiastes 7:19)

The psalmist speaks of our tendency to wander like a sheep, but he tells me that God’s wisdom protects me as I choose my steps. God’s wisdom protects me from straying as He gives me discernment for daily life. God sees it all – the big picture. He sees the end from the beginning and the last step before we take the first step. Such wisdom gives us something to share as we seek to love this special spouse God has given us.

Protection in marriage relates to a growing sense of security in our spouse. It means we have the confidence that our spouse will be there for us to lean on. It means we have the security of knowing that our spouse will defend our reputation or character. Protection means guarding against physical or emotional harm. It means doing all we can to protect our spouse from situations that would lead to emotional pain or stress. Protection means we will do what we can to support our spouse and come to his or her aid.

In order to give our spouse protection, we must have wisdom and discernment from the Lord. His wisdom will help us know the timing and the practicalities of protection. His wisdom will help me know when to step in and when to wait on Him. His wisdom will help me discern how best to defend my spouse and still give grace to others.

Protection is sometimes complicated. That’s why we need God’s discernment and strength.
